A child was found walking in the middle of a Far East Side street on Sunday afternoon after a caregiver fell asleep, Madison police reported.
Multiple people called for help after seeing the child walking in the middle of Milwaukee Street at North Sprecher Road around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, police spokesperson officer Stephanie Fryer said in a statement.
The child, whose age was not provided, is non-verbal, police were unable to find his home, and Child Protective Services was contacted.
A family member returned home to find the child missing around 5:30 p.m. and told authorities the family member had left the child in the care of an adult who had fallen asleep.
No enforcement action was listed.
