A Madison man was arrested for OWI after fleeing a crash in Verona on Wednesday, Verona police reported.
The investigation determined that a 2012 Dodge Charger was heading east on East Verona Avenue before crossing the median and the westbound lanes of traffic and then colliding with a sign, Lt. Dustin Fehrmann said in a statement.
The Charger was severely damaged and airbags deployed. The driver fled the scene on foot into the nearby Badger Prairie County Park and a drone was launched that helped police find the driver and arrest him.
The driver, 21, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, failed field sobriety tests and faces a tentative charge of OWI and was ticketed for failure to maintain control. Speed also was believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, police said.
Police did not provide a time for the crash and didn't immediately respond to a message seeking the information.
