A Green County man is serving jail time after agreeing to a plea deal in an insurance fraud case involving a boat he reported as stolen that wasn’t, the Green County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Jeremiah Strese, 47, of rural Monticello, pleaded no contest on Oct. 15 and was found guilty of obstructing an officer and making fraudulent insurance claims, while a 24-month deferred conviction agreement was reached on a felony theft charge, Chief Deputy John Schuetz said in a statement.
Strese, who had paid back the insurance company for the false claim, is serving a nine-month jail sentence in the Green County Jail and also was sentenced to 24 months of probation.
Strese on April 17, 2023, reported to law enforcement that his 2002 Bayliner 184 Capri Fish and Ski Boat with trailer and additional personal property in it had been stolen from his rural Green County residence, and he ultimately filed an insurance claim.

Surveillance footage from another property captured the boat being removed from the area by a motor vehicle with distinct features.
Green County Sheriff’s Office investigators determined that Strese enlisted the assistance of another subject to “steal” his boat from his property with the intent to file an insurance claim for his reported loss.
Strese was arrested on April 15 for obstructing an officer, making fraudulent insurance claims, and theft-false representation. Numerous items that had been reported as stolen by Strese were recovered by law enforcement, including items recovered from his residence.
A search warrant was executed April 18, and investigators found portions of Strese’s boat at a property in the town of York.
