Its name is Maple Fields and it's kind of adorable.
The Memorial Union is debuting a plushie in the form of the ever-popular sunburst chairs that liven up the Terrace every summer.
Maple, which the Union notes is the only authorized Terrace plushie in the world, is available for $21.99, plus tax, at the Badger Markets at Memorial Union and Union South and at terracestore.union.wisc.edu.
Dubbed a "chairling," its green color is inspired by the John Deere green Terrace chairs and its name is a tribute to Wisconsin's farming roots and Wisconsin's state tree, the sugar maple, according to the university's news release. The idea and design were the brainchild of UW-Madison student Emily Swanson, a graphic design intern with the union. She and social media intern Ella Mitchell created a launch plan for Maple Fields.
The Memorial Union’s three chairling characters are the cartoon versions of the green, yellow and orange Terrace chairs.
